Journeyman Plumber
Job Description
A journeyman plumber is a licensed tradesperson who has completed an apprenticeship and can install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems independently. They handle both residential and commercial projects, interpret blueprints, ensure code compliance, and mentor apprentices Core Responsibilities
- Independent Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex plumbing issues, including leaks, clogs, burst pipes, and low water pressure.
- Installation: Assemble, install, and test water, gas, and sewer lines, as well as fixtures like toilets, sinks, water heaters, and dishwashers.
- System Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on plumbing fixtures and piping systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret blueprints, schematics, and plumbing drawings to plan layouts for new systems.
- Code Compliance: Ensure all work aligns with local, state, and federal building codes and OSHA safety standards.
- Apprentice Mentorship: Guide, train, and supervise apprentice plumbers on the job site.
- Customer Service: Interact professionally with clients, explain repair options, and provide accurate time and material estimates.
- Documentation: Keep detailed work logs, fill out service tickets, and manage parts inventory.
- Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Licensure: Valid State Journeyman Plumber License.
- Experience: Typically 4-5 years of documented trade experience, usually attained via a completed apprenticeship.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in working with various piping materials (PVC, copper, cast iron, steel) and using specialized plumbing tools.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, climb ladders, and maneuver in tight, uncomfortable spaces (e.g., crawl spaces, attics).
