ABOUT THE ROLEThis role is ideal for a seasoned safety professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and wants to make a visible impact. You’ll be trusted to lead daily safety operations, influence culture, and work closely with leadership to ensure our teams go home safe every day. The Senior Safety Specialist is responsible for executing and managing the company’s day-to-day safety operations, ensuring a hazard-free environment and full compliance with OSHA, DEQ, DOT, and other applicable regulations. This role leads incident investigations, training, audits, and reporting, and serves as a key safety resource across all facilities. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows all safety policies, procedures, and company-wide safety requirements; encourages safe behavior and proactively addresses unsafe conditions. 
  • Conducts himself/herself in a considerate, professional, cooperative, and helpful manner toward fellow employees, customers, vendors, and visitors. 
  • Implements and maintains systems to manage each component of the Safety Program – Hazard Assessment, Training, Communication, Accident Investigation, and Recordkeeping. 
  • Conducts and/or coordinates training in areas such as environmental, health and safety policies, practices and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, use of safety equipment, and safe equipment operation. 
  • Leads safety audits and inspections as required by local, state, and federal agencies including, but not limited to: Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, OSHA, EPA, and DOT. 
  • Coordinates with operations leadership to ensure timely completion of monthly Hazard Assessments. Reviews the results and ensures corrective actions are prioritized and completed.
  • Investigates all accidents, incidents, and near misses; maintains Incident Log and ensures timely documentation.
  • Accompanies all injured employees for medical treatment and all follow up appointments 
  • On call 24 hours/day for safety injuries and other safety matters
  • Analyzes incident trends and provides summarized reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensures training resources are available and evaluates effectiveness of delivered safety training. 
  • Monitors online training compliance and follows up to ensure adherence and compliance.   
  • Conducts weekly facility inspections to detect existing or potential hazards; determines corrective or preventative measures and follows up to ensure implementation. 
  • Oversees management and disposal of onsite hazardous waste and chemicals. 
  • Provides and posts signage, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and prevent access to hazardous conditions. 
  • Assists with hazard evaluation when new substances, processes, procedures, or equipment are introduced.
  • Supports development of safety-specific SOPs.
  • Maintains safety files and records. 
  • Orders and maintains facility safety inventory, including supplies and equipment. 
  • Research and coordinates process improvement projects related to safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Authorized to initiate safety improvements and safety work order requests in the maintenance management system. 
  • Participates in engineering transformation projects to ensure environmental and safety compliance. 
  • Monitors changes in applicable government regulations; researches and analyzes regulatory guidance in response to specific questions. 
  • May supervise junior safety staff or interns as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned/directed by management.
  WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university required; Bachelor of Environmental Science or Safety preferred.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing safety.
  • CSP or similar certification, or the ability to obtain. 
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DEQ, DOT, and other regulatory requirements and applications.
  • Strong leadership and coaching abilities. 
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience analyzing company needs and implementing safety solutions. 
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and make clear presentations. 
  • Effective decision-making under pressure. • High integrity and professionalism. 
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing. 
  • Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Reliable, responsible, and thorough in task completion. 
  • Creative thinker with ability to develop new safety solutions. 
  • High level of customer service orientation. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word. 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited guidance. 
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (e.g., KPA or similar) preferred.
  • Must have flexibility with core hours of work
  • Job requires extensive walking in all facilities throughout the day
  • Physical Requirements (lifting, climbing, standing, equipment and/or motor vehicle use
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel toe boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs, as required
