Tool Room Lead
Job Description
Purpose of Position: The Tool Room Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Tool Room and Saw Shop, ensuring efficient inventory management, tool maintenance, and support for machining operations. This role requires leadership, organizational skills, and hands-on experience with tooling and shop equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•
Lead and coordinate activities in the Tool Room and Saw Shop, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to safety standards.
•
Support team members, providing guidance and training as needed.
•
Receive, inspect, store, and issue tools, equipment, and supplies.
•
Maintain accurate inventory records and oversee cycle counts; investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
•
Ensure tools and equipment are properly marked, maintained, and safe for use.
•
Troubleshoot, service, and repair tools and equipment as needed.
•
Set up tooling for CNC machines and support machining operations.
•
Monitor inventory levels and submit requisitions for replenishment of tools, supplies, and consumables.
•
Collaborate with machinists and supervisors to ensure tooling needs are met efficiently.
•
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Tool Room and Saw Shop.
•
Access and utilize scheduling software to manage tooling orders and ensure tooling is set up in accordance with system schedules and order priorities.
•
Work with vendors to manage tooling stock, including placing orders, tracking deliveries, and resolving supply issues.
Qualifications:
•
High School Diploma or equivalent is required; technical training or certifications preferred.
•
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a tool room, machine shop, or related environment.
•
Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role is highly desirable.
•
Strong knowledge of hand tools, machining equipment, and shop safety practices.
•
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
•
Proficient in inventory management systems and basic computer applications (Excel, Word Doc, email, and database software).
•
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
•
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
•
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
Preferred Competencies:
•
Leadership – ability to motivate and guide team members toward achieving goals.
•
Attention to Detail – thorough in completing tasks and maintaining accurate records.
