Material Handler/Forklift operator
Job Description
Material Specialist 1st shift Monday–Friday OT as needed .$20.00 to $22.00 DOE OverviewThe Material Specialist works directly in the shop department, handling material movement, part pulling, and operating forklifts and overhead cranes. This role requires a strong understanding of warehouse layouts, accurate material handling, and adherence to safety and quality standards.Key Responsibilities
- Pulls parts and delivers materials to appropriate departments, ensuring proper authorization and documentation.
- Operates forklifts, overhead cranes, and other heavy equipment to transport materials safely.
- Inspect received items against purchase orders to verify accuracy and quantity. Escalates discrepancies or damages to the Lead.
- Uncrates, assembles, and stages materials as directed; removes and disposes of packing materials responsibly.
- Labels and tags correctly to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Utilizes computerized inventory systems (SAP preferred) to manage stock and track materials.
- Observes and complies with all safe work practices, wearing required PPE.
- Supports continuous improvement by learning and applying new processes on the job.
- Resolves simple vendor discrepancies and reports complex issues to higher-level management.
- Maintains adequate inventory of warehouse and shop supplies.
- Collaborate with the team to improve workflow and work processes within the department.
- Performs grinding tasks and other shop-related duties as assigned.
- Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Understanding of warehouse layout and material location procedures.
- Basic mechanical skills for grinding and assembly tasks.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure correct material handling and inventory accuracy.
- Competence in using computers, inventory systems, and office equipment (copiers, printers, telephones).
Commitment to safety, HSE regulations, and proper PPE usage.
Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to process improvements.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
Forklift or Heavy Equipment Certification
